You can win your own exquisite Grape Escape quilt! The Flying Needles Chapter of the Applique Society, a small group from Northfield, Illinois, made their version of The Grape Escape quilt for a raffle to benefit the outreach programs of the church where they meet. The many outreach programs that will benefit from this raffle quilt include Debra’s Place (a women’s shelter), Just Harvest Community Kitchen, Lake Cook Health Center (providing skilled nursing care, respite care, hospice care, and rehabilitation services), the Northfield Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity. What a wonderful idea to raise funds for such important services to the community by having a quilt raffle.
The Grape Escape quilt is a unique wall quilt that blends traditional motifs with a contemporary style. The Flying Needles members created a beautiful masterpiece. Their rendition included 43 different grape fabrics to make 596 grapes. Twenty-two different leaf fabrics made up the 100 leaves, with 424″ of bias for stems. All that in a 49 x 49″ quilt! It was hand appliqued by eight members of the Flying Needles group and longarm quilted by Donna Derstadt. (This quilt’s exquisite quilting motifs were designed by Donna.)
Raffle tickets are $1 each and 6 for $5. The drawing takes place in October, 2012. To purchase tickets for this raffle quilt, write a check or money order to St. James the Less Church. Enclose your check, along with your name, address, email address, and phone number to Donna Derstadt, Flying Needles Raffle Quilt, 31440 W. Somerset Circle, Green Oaks, IL 60048.
