Hi Gail,
You are very fortunate to have your background in color as a quilter. It helps so much. I love the way you have introduced blues into your home's life.

Isn't it interesting how our color tastes evolve over the years. When we built our home, we had cool blues in our bedroom, as my husbands favorite colors were blues and browns. We also put a beautiful teal tile on our kitchen counters, as it was the loveliest tile we could find. The bedroom has changed, but we're still with the teal tile---nearly 40 years later.....It's a good thing I like teal. There are so many choices nowadays. It would be hard to make a decision as to what color to feature in one's home now. Color is fun in the way it is so much a part of our lives.
I hope you enjoy the blog. Do share some of your ideas from time to time.

Hi Joen. I am just getting started with the color study. I have studied color in the past as a painter and interior designer, which I use in my quilting. I am looking forward to learning more. I have never been much for blue in the interior of my home, but have begun to appreciate it this last year all beginning to fall in love with turquoise like in the water falls. I started with some lamp crystals, then some drinking glasses, now I have some soft blue re-purposed bottles on my dining table. I tend toward the warm blues.
Thank you for the lessons.

Congratulations, Joen!
Very handsome and informative blogsite. Lucious photography to boot.
How do you think "the blues" relates to the color discussion? Not a trick question, just wondering out loud.

Hi Catherine,
It's nice to hear from you. I'll answer your question in more detail in a future blog. Generally speaking, the closer a color is to yellow, the warmer it is. The farther away it moves away from yellow, the cooler it is. Another way of saying it would be: The more yellow a color has in its makeup, the warmer it is. Thanks for the great question.

Thank you so much for doing this, I have learned so much from those artist who are willing to share their knowledge on the internet. One thing though, I'm a bit confused by your reference to the cool and warm blues. I've always considered those blues that tend toward green to be the cooler blues where the warm blues are on the red side of the color wheel and move toward the violets. You state that aqua is the warmest blue, yet, I see it as the coolest blue being closest to the greens. Do you have a different way to classify warm and cool blues?

Hi Susan,
Thanks for your comments. Generally, the 3-in-1 Color Tool is available at most quilt stores and also many art supply stores. It's published by C & T Publishing and you may be able to get it from them online. Also, there are many online quilting websites that carry the color tool, as well as others, such as Amazon.com.
